  • Cervicogenic dizziness

You may also experience balance or gait problems because of:

  • Orthopedic problems
  • Vestibular disorders
  • Diabetic neuropathies
  • Peripheral neuropathies
  • Head injuries
  • Post-concussion symptoms
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease

All of our Vestibular Physical Therapists have had extensive post-graduate education in the area of vestibular therapy.

What to expect on your first visit

Balance problems and vestibular disorders are multi-factorial in nature and require a thorough exam to identify contributing factors allowing for development of a comprehensive treatment plan.

  1. Musculoskeletal Evaluation: Your evaluation will include an assessment of your posture, muscle flexibility, muscle strength and gait/assistive device analysis.

  2. Dizziness/Balance Evaluation: Your evaluation will also include both static and dynamic balance testing, as well as positional testing designed to establish the source(s) of dizziness.

  3. Treatment:

  • Manual therapy: Hands on techniques to restore spinal symmetry, reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility and improve joint mobility.
  • Functional Re-training: Restoration of proper posture and body mechanics, correction of faulty movement patterns and inappropriate gait patterns.
  • Vestibular Therapy: Therapy designed to decrease your dizziness and improve your balance as well as your overall fitness. Specific vestibular exercise protocols are designed to restore the vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR), develop improved postural strategies and increase levels of motor function.

Patient education and self-management strategies are also part of our comprehensive treatment approach.

Expected Outcomes:  Our goal is to treat BPPV in 1-3 visits; dizziness, motion sickness and other vestibular conditions in 4-8 visits.
