Q&A with Marie
Why did you become a physical therapist?
Destiny! My mom said I walked into the house when I was 14 and said “I want to go into sports medicine and be a therapist”. She said, great, get good grades. I have been living the dream ever since. I feel like I’ve worked 10 years and it’s been more than 30. That’s when you know you’ve chose the right profession. Love what you do and you’ll feel like you’ve never worked a day in your life!
What can patients expect when they see you in the clinic?
My patients will be treated as a person not a diagnosis. I will perform a complete evaluation and treatment will be individualized to them and their physical and emotional exam findings. My patients will receive hands on treatment and be given home exercises that compliment in clinic treatment. I ask all my patients to be an active participant in the healing and recovery process.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?
I am an avid sports fan and my favorite sport is baseball, especially, following my beloved Cubs and adopted Twins. My passions include traveling, playing golf, walking and hiking, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
What are your favorite ways of staying healthy?
Spending time out on the boat experiencing serenity on the water and taking in vitamin D. Also walking, a yoga practice, eating healthy, and connecting with people.
Where is your hometown?
Suburbs of the great city of Chicago! My kind of town!
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Prior to walking into the house at 14 with my declaration, it had been a PE teacher, professional softball player, and clown. I feel certain my parents were grateful I moved off the latter.
What is your favorite thing about living in Minnesota?
Spring, summer and fall! Winter is simply an interruption to all the things I love to do and I really don’t like to be cold!
